Sketch of the day - Poison Ivy Baby 5 of 7

When I was given the challenge of creating baby versions of some of Gotham City's characters, I instantly wanted to do Poison Ivy.  She turned out okay, but I might revisit her someday and see if I can do a better job.

Sketch of the day - Catwoman Baby 4 of 7

Here is another of my Gotham babies I created for a friend, Catwoman Baby.  She turned out nice I think.

Sketch of the day - Harley Quinn Baby 3 of 7

Here is one of my favorites of the series of Gotham Babies that I did.  I just love how she turned out entirely.  I was even told that someone wants to get it as a tattoo.

Sketch of the day - Joker Baby 2 of 7

Here is another in my Gotham Babies series I did.  This is of course the Joker, complete with BANG flag gun and evil grin.

Sketch of the day - Batman Baby 1 of 7

I am finally able to share my artwork that I was working on.  They were unveiled to the person I created them for, so here is the 1st of the 7 Gotham babies.  Enter Batman baby with Robin doll in tow.

Sketch of the day - Cartoon Brute

Today I drew a character from my new cartooning book, he is a brute.

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

Sketch of the day - Super Hero Boy portraits

Yesterday I picked up a new cartooning book that sparked my interest.  I liked the style of the artist that did the book and so here, after many days of inactivity, is a new sketch of the day!  I have been working on a project for a friend and and just about done, have one last drawing to colorize digitally and then I am finished.  So I figured it was time to get back into the 'sketch of the day' routine.

Sketch of the day sneak peek - project I'm working on

Here is the same sneak peek from a few days ago, but in color.  The color may give it away partially as to who it is.  Been working on a couple characters and still have 4 more to do, they have been so much fun to create.

Sketch of the day sneak peek - project I'm working on

Been working on a project for a friend, so I haven't been posting.  I am sharing this little sneak peek into what I am working on though. :)

Sketch of the day: Shadowcat and Lockheed, bath time!

I decided to try drawing Lockheed and Shadowcat coming out of a wall to catch him while holding a bottle of shampoo.  I had some trouble with Lockheed while coloring him, my purple is too dark.

Sketch of the day: Indigo Lantern Kor-Ghee (original character)

Today I decided to play around with the concept of creating my own character, I used the Indigo Lanterns from the Green Lantern comic books by DC, known as the Indigo Tribe.  The color indigo represents compassion within the DC universe.  I created a new race of aliens that resemble corgis, the little short-legged dogs made popular by the Queen of England.  My character is named Kor-Ghee, an Indigo Lantern representing his race of Corgi-like aliens.  I like how he turned out for the most part, he has a cute face and I like the colors.

Sketch of the day: Wolverine from the Age of Apocalypse

Today I drew Wolverine from the classic Age of Apocalypse story-line.  I also drew, for the first time, somewhat of a background to have him interacting with.  First time for everything, I like how it turned out for the most part.

Sketch of the day: Surprised Chicken

A good friend of mine asked me to draw her a chicken, so I drew this chicken that is surprised that she laid an egg.  It was fun to draw an animal and try to give it some personality.

Sketch of the day: Blink from the X-Men in COLOR

I took the drawing from earlier and traced it, then colored it using markers and pens.  It turned out okay, but her face is a little weird.  I need to work on eyes and facial expressions.  I love how her clothing turned out.

Thursday, August 11, 2011

Sketch of the day: Blink from the X-Men

Today I drew one of my most favorite characters in the X-Men comics universe, Blink.  This is her from the Age of Apocalypse universe.  I liked how she turned out so I wanted to scan the drawing before I colored her.

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

Sketch of the day: Gambit from the X-Men

I was given the request to draw Gambit from the X-Men today by an on-line buddy.  I hope he likes how he turned out, I think he turned out not too bad.  I liked the challenge of his coat, which could look better but not bad for one of my first coats.

Monday, August 8, 2011

Sketch of the day: Druid, Witch & Faces

Today I am sharing some sketches I did of a Druid and a Witch, and a couple of faces.  These were drawn from a how to book I have been using to learn a certain style of drawing I like.  The one face of the monkey-like creature was one I kind of tweaked to make my own, appropriate for the new Planet of the Apes movie out right now.

Friday, August 5, 2011

Sketch of the day: Classic Storm from the X-Men

Today I drew Storm from the X-Men in her classic original outfit.  It's timeless and beautiful.  I think I did a pretty good job today drawing her.  I need some more skin-tone markers though, the brown I have is way too dark but I made it work as best I could.

Thursday, August 4, 2011

Sketch of the day: Warlord

Today I drew a Warlord from the cartooning book I have.  He came out pretty close to the original.  I like the style that the book has and hope to pick it up with each time I draw something from it.

Monday, August 1, 2011

Sketch of the day: Penance of Generation X

I have been drawing some of my favorite X-Men universe characters, today I drew Penance from the X-Men comic Generation X.  She is one of my favorites from that series.

Sketch of the day: Angel of the X-Men REDUX

Today I redrew Angel from the X-Men and made sure I took my time on him and especially his wings.  I really like how he turned out.  I hope this sketch redeems me for the monstrosity of a couple days ago.

Sketch of the day: A creature of some sort

Today's sketch is of a creature from a how-to-draw book I have.  I am making my way through the book drawing everything inside it's pages.

Thursday, July 28, 2011

Sketch of the day: Angel of the X-Men

Today I sketched, very quickly, and colored, also very quickly, Angel from the X-Men.  This is after his metal wings broke and his feather wings grew back.  He was difficult for me to draw, it was mainly the wings.  I did not like how his wings turned out but that is why I am drawing, to get better at it.

Sketch of the day: Red Riding Hood and Bandit

This is from a few days ago, drawn from a How To book.  I need a thinner marker for inking.

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Sketch of the day: Sorceress and Female Portrait

Today I am sharing a drawing I did of a Sorceress and also a Female portrait, they are from a "how to draw fantasy cartoons" book.

Bonus Sketch of the day: A horse

This I drew shortly after my mom had a stroke this past month.  I had told her that I would draw a horse for her while she was awake and before she could talk again.  She loves horses and it seemed very fitting and therapeutic for me.

Sketch of the day: Polaris of the X-Men

I drew Polaris in her classic costume from when she was part of the X-Men.  This was drawn this past week and thought I would share it since I have access to my scanner again.  I used markers to color her.

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

Sketch of the day: Colossus of the X-Men

Today I bought some Copic markers that are in really light tones.  Perfect for giving shadow and light to metal, so I drew Colossus from the X-Men comic books and then gave him some color.

Friday, July 15, 2011

Sketch of the day: Meggan of Excalibur

Today I bought some markers and tried them out.  Decided to try drawing Meggan from my favorite comic book Excalibur.

Sketch of the day: Karma of the New Mutants

As I had said in the previous post, my Mom had a stroke and I am in Ohio helping her and my Dad out.  She is doing better now but it will still be a long road to recovery.  She was moved into a Rehab center today where it's more quiet and less hectic than the ICU.  She is able to communicate now; she nods, sometimes mouths words and will also rarely speak. She's eating on her own a little bit as well.  Thinks are looking up for her. I was able to take some time today and draw while visiting her in her room.  I started out drawing a woman's face and it evolved into Karma from the X-Men and New Mutants comics.  I was very pleased with how she turned out.  Once I am back home in WA state I will be able to keep up with my drawing better.

Older sketch of the day: Growl

As some may know from my Facebook page, my mother had a stroke and I am in Ohio helping out my Dad and visiting her at the hospital.  I was able to sketch today but have to try to figure out how to scan my sketch into the computer here.  So today I am sharing an older sketch I did a few weeks back.

Sketch of the day: Cartooning Practice 1

I found a book called Fantasy Cartooning by artist Ben Caldwell at the book store in a bargain bin.  They style of Ben's drawings is awesome and so I am going to go through the whole book and draw everything in it.  Today I concentrated on the Hero portion of the book and drew a couple of full body heroes and then some closeups of Hero faces.

Bonus Art of the day: Conan O'Brien and Unicorn in color

I decided to try coloring my ridiculous artwork I did today of Conan O'Brien and a unicorn.  I used the program Open Canvas and I must say I like it.  I will have to continue to use it and see if I can develop better skills at coloring my artwork.  It almost feels like using markers and I really like that.

Sketch of the day: Conan O'Brien and a unicorn

Today I was given, as sort of a joke, the idea of drawing Conan O'Brien making out with a unicorn.  So I ran with it and actually drew it.  It's such a weird thing to draw but I have a feeling that Team Coco would love it if they saw it.  Sorry Conan!  Also I must say that I have hardly any practice drawing the profile of someone, so it was good practice at least.

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

Sketch of the day: FFIV Rydia

Today I was given the pleasure of drawing Rydia from the video game Final Fantasy IV.  I say pleasure because I really like how she turned out.  She is a Summoner in the story-line so I have her summoning Sylph, a summon spell that calls upon 3 tiny fairy-like creatures that drain the life from the enemy and give it to the party.

Monday, June 27, 2011

Sketch of the day: Grunt from Mass Effect 2

Today I tried to draw Grunt from the video game series Mass Effect.  He has such an oddly shaped body and head combo so he turned out a little weird looking.  But I kind of like it.

Saturday, June 25, 2011

Sketch of the day: Mufasa

Today I tried sketching Mufasa from the Disney animated classic, The Lion King.  It doesn't look as much like Mufasa as it looks like a lion in general.  I like how it turned out, using a computer rendered version of Mufasa I found on-line as the basis for my pose I drew a line drawing version.

Friday, June 24, 2011

Sketch of the day: Mega Man X

Today I drew a sketch of Mega Man X from the popular video game series.  I really like how he turned out, I drew him in a little different of a style trying to make him a little more of my own.

Thursday, June 23, 2011

Sketch of the day: Garrus Vakarian of Mass Effect

Today I did a sketch of Garrus from the video game series Mass Effect.  I concentrated on his face and I must admit that I think he turned out quite good.  Aliens are somewhat easy to draw, not being of human proportions and all.  We as humans can spot what is wrong with a drawing of a human because we see humans on a daily basis but aliens we don't know what they look like so a drawing of one could look like anything.

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

Sketch of the day: Alien Xenomorph

I missed yesterday's sketch due to something called life, so today I hope I make up for missing a day by drawing something very difficult for me.  Today's sketch is of a xenomorph from the film franchise Alien.  Another suggestion from my human suggestion box, aka Brett.  Today's sketch turned out okay but I ran out of room to make the hands bigger.

Monday, June 20, 2011

Sketch of the day: Ursaring from Pokemon

Today I was given the idea to draw Ursaring from the Pokemon series.  I took the character and made it less Pokemon-like and more realistic.  I like how her turned out, the face especially.  I used inspiration from one of my favorite artists known as Kuma.

Sunday, June 19, 2011

Sketch of the day: Final Fantasy Bahamut

Today I drew a very technically difficult character, Bahamut the Dragon King from the Final Fantasy video game series.  He is almost always shown as an elaborately decorated dragon with gigantic wings.  I drew my own version of him but ran out of room for his wings.

Saturday, June 18, 2011

Sketch of the day: Isaac Clarke of Dead Space

Today's sketch is of Isaac Clarke from the video game Dead Space... another suggestion.  I was not too keen on drawing him at first but I enjoyed the challenge.  I didn't get the proportions correct, but I like how his legs turned out.  His head though looks not quite right.

Friday, June 17, 2011

Sketch of the day: Chun Li from Street Fighter

Today I was given the suggestion of drawing Chun Li from the video game series Street Fighter.  More specifically her portrait from the game Super Street Fighter 2 HD Remix.  I need to work on face details so I thought it was a great idea and I like how it turned out.

Thursday, June 16, 2011

Bonus Art of the day: Luigi in color

I decided to take today's sketch and play around with it in Photoshop.

Sketch of the day: Luigi

Today I sketched out Luigi, the sometimes forgotten Super Mario Brother.  I did him in a more realistic cartoony style while trying to stay true to the character.

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

Sketch of the day: Princess Tiana

Today's sketch of the day is of the Disney princess from the movie The Princess and the Frog, Princess Tiana.  Another suggestion from a friend.  I think she turned out pretty good, I just need to work on hands.

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Sketch of the day: Dex Starr the Red Lantern

Today's sketch is of another Green Lantern character, this time it is Dex Starr the Red Lantern.  He was just a normal kitty that was engulfed in rage due to unfortunate circumstances.  Red Lanterns represent Rage and they can spit flammable acidic blood.  I took some more time on this one and really got into the drawing.  I am very pleased with how he turned out, the blood I need to work on.
